Blastech is a custom industrial coating contractor based in Ontario that specializes in the application of high performance coating systems. We are experts in metalizing (thermal spray coating/TSC) and liquid coating applications, including zinc, epoxy, polyurethane and polysiloxane. Typical processing involves components such as structural steel, custom fabrications, tanks, vessels, ducts, panels, plate and pipe; however, we have the capability to process virtually anything.

Responsibilities

 

  • Read drawings and follow instructions to ensure masking, blasting and paint items are in accordance to specification
  • Examine incoming jobs to ensure conformance to specification; record and report non-conformance
  • Use of Testex tape, micrometer and profile gauge to evaluate and record profile of abrasive cleaned steel as per job specifications and quality standards
  • Use of black light technique to ensure cleaned surface of steel is free from oil
  • Use of K.T.A. surface contamination kit to ensure surface is free from soluble contamination, such as chlorides and sulphates
  • Use of a wet film gauge to assure compliant coating thickness
  • Use of an electronic or magnetic dry film thickness gauge to test for dry film thickness to SSPC or Blastech quality standards.
  • Maintain records of all activities and test data as required by job specifications and Blastech quality standards in an organized and clear manner
  • Perform any other quality assurance verification tests
  • Provide assistance on jobs to ensure customer service and production levels, as required
  • Perform other functions as directed 
Qualifications

 

  • Minimum high school education is required; post-secondary in a related field is an asset
  • Minimum 1 year experience in a quality assurance position
  • Strong communication skills and fluency in English
  • Proficiency using a computer, including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to learn quickly
  • Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings
  • Knowledge of industrial coatings industry and a basic understanding of painting/surface coating process would be assets
Preferred Skills

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand & walk continuously for 4 hours at a time
  • Comfortable and able to work at heights and/or confined spaces
  • Ability to work in awkward postures, including kneeing and crouching
