We are experts in metalizing (thermal spray coating/TSC) and liquid coating applications, including zinc, epoxy, polyurethane and polysiloxane. Typical processing involves components such as structural steel, custom fabrications, tanks, vessels, ducts, panels, plate and pipe; however, we have the capability to process virtually anything.

Responsibilities

Blastech is growing! We've added a brand-new Rail Car division to our facility and we're looking for ambitious, hard-working individuals to join our team.

We're specifically looking for Industrial Painters experienced using paint spray equipment to apply protective and epoxy coatings and paints to fabricated structural steel material, tanks, vessels, pipeline etc.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare and test spray painting equipment prior to use
  • Apply surface materials when required to fill any surface imperfections
  • Read drawings on masking areas where paint is not to be applied
  • Inspect surface condition prior to coating and report any irregularities
  • Select and use various hand tools, abrasive sandpapers and grinders to prepare surface
  • Recognize surfaces for painting readiness, including the presence of grit
  • Prepare and mix paint in accordance with coating manufacturer’s specifications
  • Apply protective coatings to various types of surfaces using airless, air-assisted, conventional, pressurized air spray, high volume-low pressure, plural component paint spray equipment
  • Measure coating film thicknesses dry and wet
  • Empty solvents and waste paints into drums, seal lids and shrink wrap
  • Clean all spray painting equipment upon completion of use and report any defective parts
  • Ensure all tools and equipment are in safe working condition and stored after use
  • Ensure regular ‘housekeeping’ to reduce hazards and waste
  • Work in accordance with applicable health and safety legislation, company policies, quality standards

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications

  • Some high school education
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in industrial painting or coating application
  • Knowledge of and demonstrable skill in basic cleaning and blasting procedures
  • Comprehension of basic product specifications, protective and environmental procedures
  • Basic communication skills (verbal & written) and working knowledge of English
  • Attention to detail and ability to learn quickly
  • Team player
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Act and safe work practices
  • Any industrial painting certificate is an asset

 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to carry spray paint equipment short distance
  • Ability to hold spray paint equipment continuously for up to 1 hour
  • Ability to stand & walk continuously for 4 hours at a time
  • Comfortable and able to climb a ladder and work at heights up to 10 meters
  • Ability to operate a forklift
  • Ability to lift/push up to 50 lbs

 

Special Working Conditions

  • Must be flexible to work all shifts – day, evening and overnight - rotating every 2 weeks
  • Flexibility to work overtime to meet production levels, as required
  • Dusty environment from blast booths and grinders
  • Frequent (daily) exposure to chemicals and paints
  • Personal protective equipment required
